SENDCo Assistant (Online Alternative Provision)
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEND Co Assistant to join our team at our EDClass. You will play a vital role in supporting the SEND provision, working closely with the SEND Lead, teachers, safeguarding team and external agencies to ensure learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive the support they need to thrive in our online learning environment. EDClass is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. To be successful in this role, you must be eligible to receive a DBS check that is relevant to the post.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the SEND Lead in the implementation of the SEND policy for the OAP, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidance.
- Support the identification, assessment, and categorisation of learners with SEND, working closely with teachers and the SEND Lead.
- Assist in the collation and management of Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and One Page Profiles (OPPs) from schools for learners with SEND.
- Support the implementation of advice detailed in EHCPs and OPPs to effectively support learners with SEND.
- Assist in maintaining effective communication between schools, parents, learners, and teachers regarding SEND support.
- Support teachers in delivering effective learning programmes that meet the individual needs of learners with SEND, including the use of assistive technologies.
- Assist in building positive and professional relationships with parents/carers of learners with SEND, providing information, advice, and support under the guidance of the SEND Lead.
- Attend review meetings with schools/parents to support learners with SEND needs, as directed by the SEND Lead.
- Liaise with external agencies such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and other support services, as directed by the SEND Lead.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the SEND provision, contributing to identifying areas for improvement.
- Contribute to the professional development of staff in relation to SEND, as directed by the SEND Lead.
- Supporting and teaching our learners whilst they are in the online classroom.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
- Experience working with learners with SEND.
- A good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation and guidance.
- Confidence using technology and software systems such as Microsoft Office Suite, Zoho and other technologies
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with learners, parents/carers, and colleagues.
- Experience of working in an online learning environment or a strong aptitude to learn.
- A commitment to inclusion and a passion for ensuring all learners with SEND have the opportunity to succeed.
- Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding procedures and legislation
- Willing to embrace change in a rapidly expanding and developing area of education
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in supporting the implementation of IEPs.
- Any subject specialism, however one of the following would be preferred: English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, PE.
- Knowledge of assistive technologies for learners with SEND.
- A relevant SEND qualification or training.
