Compass Community Leads With Transparency & Therapeutic Care
Compass Community is one of the UK’s leading providers of therapeutic fostering, residential care, and specialist education, but at its heart, Compass is something much simpler and more human.
As an organisation supporting children and young people across England and Wales, Compass brings three essential services together, fostering, residential care, and education. A wraparound service that brings together a network of people who care deeply about helping children heal and grow.
A Community Built Around The Child
Across our eight regions, we work with a single guiding principle: put the child at the centre, always.
Our therapeutic teams, made up of psychologists, therapists, and trauma specialists, wrap unique support around each child, their foster carers, their teachers, and their residential workers. It means no one must face challenges alone. Our aim is to ensure that every young person experiences safety, understanding, and a genuine sense of being valued in every part of their life.
A Brief Overview Of Our Services
Compass Fostering creates stable, loving homes where children can begin to trust again. Foster carers are supported with specialist training, hands-on guidance, and someone to call at any hour of the day. We have over 1500 foster carers across both England and Wales, divided into eight regions; each region has a Head of Fostering who oversees the whole service. Operations Managers are also on hand to help with any concerns or challenges that you’re facing. Every foster carer has a dedicated Supervising Social Worker who is always just a phone call away, ready to offer advice and support whenever you need it.
We also offer something unique called the Carer for Carer programme. When you begin your fostering journey with us, an experienced foster carer from the region supports you for the first 16 weeks: four weeks before the panel and twelve weeks after approval. It’s a warm and practical way to ensure that you feel guided, supported, and understood.
Alongside this, Compass provides a wide range of specialist training to help you build confidence, strengthen therapeutic skills, and feel equipped for whatever fostering may bring.
Compass Children’s Homes provides safe, nurturing, warm homes for children and young people. Staff take the time to learn each child’s story, their preferences, their worries, and the little things that make them feel comfortable, right down to how they’d like their bedroom decorated. Each home has a home manager, deputy manager, residential support workers, and therapeutic practitioners, and all our staff are trained in a therapeutic approach to best support our young people.
Compass Community Schools help children rediscover the joy of learning through patience, understanding and therapeutic education. With class sizes capped at six and Teaching Assistants in every room, young people benefit from nurturing staff–to–student ratios – often 1:3 or 1:2, with 1:1 support available whenever needed.
Each school has a dedicated Therapeutic Pastoral Lead, ensuring therapy is woven into daily life. This wraparound approach helps children rebuild confidence, strengthen their sense of self and feel ready to learn again, especially those who have experienced trauma.
Enrichment is central to our offer. Pupils take part in outdoor learning such as Forest School, enjoy regular off-site visits and have access to sensory rooms, counselling spaces and well-designed outdoor areas that support play, regulation and connection.
At Compass, children sit at the heart of every decision we make. We aim to provide a holistic learning experience that helps each young person grow into who they are meant to be – developing resilience, kindness, curiosity, and other qualities that will guide them through life and support their place in society.
Together, these services create a genuine community, a place where children are supported by adults who believe in them. To learn more about our services, explore our company index
