A Teachers Guide To Musical Moments

Updated 26th February, 2025

Franchise Spotlight Conversations is a short online chat with Katie Stickley from Those Who Can and a Franchise we work closely with.

It’s a great opportunity to hear directly from the Franchisor about what they love about the business they created.

It’s also a chance for you, the teacher, to get a feel for the franchise, is it a good fit for you, do you want to know more?

In this episode, Katie chats with Maggie Baker former teacher and Franchisor of Musical Moments to find out how Maggie moved from teaching into her current role and how transitioning from teaching children to working with adults with a range of complex needs is incredibly rewarding.

About Musical Moments

Musical Moments provides stimulating and interactive musical activity sessions for care settings, community groups and individuals at home.

They have worked with over a thousand care homes across the UK providing unique and engaging activities. Sessions include live music performed by their musicians, safe and appropriate exercise and movement to music. They also feature interactive music activities with sensory props, as well as the opportunity for residents to sing and perform with instruments and reminisce to music in a carefully structured yet flexible way.

They ensure to involve everyone in the group, no matter their ability, through the use of interactive music, singing and movement.

Those Who Can – Thoughts

I have a real affinity with the concept of Musical Moments, you can tell that this business has been created with care, love and respect. Speaking to Maggie, she enthuses the values of the business and her positive relationship with Musical Moments allows her to grow as a creative individual but also be present for her family.

Hearing Maggie speak and reflect on wonderful ‘moments’ from her sessions within care homes was just beautiful. It was also good to understand that the sessions are carefully thought through and designed to help explore a range of physical and mental skills.

You don’t need to be a music teacher to take on this franchise but a passion for music is definitely important. It was also refreshing to hear that you can start this franchise whilst teaching and build slowly with purpose. There is also scope to run a team of session leaders and create a much bigger offering. There is flexibility to bring your own children to the sessions and to manage your own hours throughout the year.

Maggie believes that teachers shouldn’t worry about moving from working with children to working with adults, “as a teacher, yes you teach young people but you work with colleagues, parents, senior leaders, governors, other agency professionals and you will already adapt to all those people just like you would in a job working solely with adults.”

The growth of Musical Moments was inspired by Maggie’s own experiences, after she moved from mainstream teaching in to SEN.  Maggie is also exploring intergenerational sessions with school groups and care homes.

Taking on a Musical Moments franchise seems like a personally and financially rewarding enterprise, Maggie really values the skills a teacher can bring and she understands your journey as she has taken those very steps herself.
