Specialist/Expert Volunteer (teacher with specialism in maths)
We are looking for a maths specialist teacher to join the Education & Families team. This six month, remotely-based, volunteering role is all about helping to shape the maths-based opportunities of the UK’s largest citizen science project for schools.The RSPB’s Big Schools’ Birdwatch is enjoyed annually by tens of thousands of learners across the UK.
We anticipate that on average two hours per week would be spent doing this role, but this could be flexible.
You will be:
- Reviewing existing maths resources and identifying opportunities to enhance the Big Schools’ Birdwatch offer for teachers.
- Leading and attending meetings via Teams and collaborating on role-specific tasks through shared platforms.
- Undertaking research and providing recommendations.
- Engaging with internal stakeholders.
- Working remotely.
We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:
- A maths specialist. You will need strong subject knowledge and understanding of the maths curriculum and its progression through the phases.
- You may be the maths coordinator and have experience of leading maths across the school.
- Understand mastery approaches and current research in maths education.
- Motivated to use your skills and expertise to design and recommend resources that enable pupils to develop curriculum relevant skills through Big Schools’ Birdwatch.
- Strong organisational skills.
